Construction-Themed Birthday Party

Amidst all the planning for our baby due in June, purchasing 20 new chickens/building a coop for them in our backyard, and the never-ending spring cleaning/garden-planning, we had a very special birthday to celebrate as our son turned TWO over the weekend! These past two years have been overflowing with love, laughter, and adventures with our little Crew. As bittersweet as it is watching him grow, it’s the biggest blessing getting to spend everyday with such gentle, loving, tenacious dude.

Like so many other kiddos his age, his current obsession is vehicles and particularly heavy machinery. So naturally, a construction-themed birthday party was the perfect move. I scoured Pinterest for all the easy DIY treats and activities and am pleased to say the party was a HUGE success. I’ve truly never seen so many toddlers playing happily together for so many hours, and I give most of the credit to the following: sugar, wheeled-toys, and chickens. Read on for the deets: :)

I bought this set of kid-size construction hats and vests for all of Crew’s friends to wear and take home after the party, and decorated the stair railing with this ‘birthday zone’ caution tape.

The dessert table featured the construction site birthday cake, Rice Krispies ‘paint brushes’, brownie bites/’boulders’, and lemon wafer cookie ‘2x4s’.

This was the easiest birthday cake I’ve made in years so might need to have construction-theme parties for all my friends and family now ;D

The kids LOVED this taste-friendly sensory bin!

I crushed Cheerios in a food processor, put them in a 9x13 pan, and added construction toys. 4-5 kids were playing here at a time!

Crew showed his friends his new baby chicks

The kiddos could not get enough of them

(Crew’s in the back focused on a task as usual.. :D)

Couldn’t get enough of those brownie bites :)
